Home Staging

Home staging is the act of preparing a private residence for sale in the real estate marketplace. The goal of staging is to make a home appealing to the highest number of potential buyers, thereby selling a property more swiftly and for more money. Wikipedia

This is what I have been up to lately… decluttering, depersonalizing and designing.  The philosophy of home staging is to take the “you” out of your house and therefore make it more appealing to more people.  What do you think of this concept?

For someone who is practicing the art of authenticity, this is a difficult thing to do. So in between clearing kitchen counters…

and plumping pillows in the master bedroom…

and creating bedrooms for imaginary people…

I have managed to keep a little of me in my home in the form of (not so) subliminal messages…

A potential buyer needs to be able to see themselves living in your space…

And therefore, less stuff means that it is easier it is for them to do so..

Staging is essential to showing your home in the best possible light because some people just don’t have the ability to envision it without the clutter and the fridge magnets.

Living in a staged home is a challenge… but worth it in the end. Even though I have taken the “me” out of a lot of areas of our house, I have managed to retain total authenticity in one room,… my artist loft… but that is another post.
